About Peltodoris nobilis (MacFarland, 1905)

This species of nudibranch, Peltodoris nobilis, is variable in color, ranging from very pale yellow and rich yellow to rather dark orange. The tips of its gill rosette have a white tinge. Its dorsum is covered in tubercles, and a number of dark spots appear on the dorsum, but these spots never occur on the tubercles themselves. The number of these dark spots varies greatly between individual nudibranchs. This animal can reach up to 200 mm, or nearly 8 inches, in length. In terms of distribution, Peltodoris nobilis occurs in the Eastern Pacific Ocean, ranging from Alaska to Baja California. It feeds on sponges.
