About Peltodoris lentiginosa (Millen, 1982)

Peltodoris lentiginosa is a species of dorid nudibranch first described by Millen in 1982. The dorsum of this species is covered in tubercles, giving it a bumpy texture. Its body has splotchy coloration, made up of patches of different shades of brown; pure white individuals of this species have also been observed. It has six white to off-white gills located toward the back of its body, and its rhinophores share the same white to off-white coloration. Mature individuals reach an approximate length of 18 cm. This species has been recorded along the Pacific coast of North America, from Kodiak Island, Alaska, south to Cape Arago, Oregon. It occurs primarily from intertidal depths down to around 33 meters. In terms of ecology, Peltodoris lentiginosa feeds on yellow encrusting sponges, and has also been observed feeding on glass sponges.
