About Peltigera membranacea (Ach.) Nyl.

Peltigera membranacea (Ach.) Nyl. is a species of lichenized fungus belonging to the family Peltigeraceae. It grows in a foliose pattern, and its leaf-like structures feature visible vein-like markings. These markings do not serve any vascular function. Its apothecia are upright, produced in large numbers, and often have a bright brown-orange color. Simple sequence repeat markers have been developed for both the fungal mycobiont partner of Peltigera membranacea and its Nostoc photobiont partner. These markers can be used for population genetic studies, and also provide an alternative method to distinguish P. membranacea from similar-looking species.
