About Peltigera leucophlebia (Nyl.) Gyeln.

This lichen, Peltigera leucophlebia, has a gray or brown thallus that reveals clearly visible bright green algae when wet. The lower surface of its thallus is white. This species occurs across North America, Asia, and Europe. Within North America, it can be found in most of Alaska and Canada, the Great Lakes region, New England, the Rocky Mountains, and along the Pacific coast. Ecologically, Peltigera leucophlebia is a confirmed host for the microfungus Pyrenidium actinellum. Traditionally in Iceland, this lichen has been used to make porridge.
