About Pellaea falcata (R.Br.) Fée
Pellaea falcata, commonly known as the sickle fern, is a widespread and common fern native to eastern Australia. It occurs frequently in coastal and range regions, growing in eucalyptus forest and rainforest habitats. Its distribution includes Tasmania, Victoria, New South Wales, Queensland, and Lord Howe Island. The fronds of this fern are typically between 37 and 105 centimetres long. Each frond bears between 27 and 65 leaflets (called pinnae), and sometimes produces even more pinnae. These pinnae have either no stalk or a very short stalk, and are oblong to narrow-oblong in shape. Pinnae measure 22 to 56 millimetres in length and 5 to 12 millimetres in width. Sori form a continuous band along the edges of each pinna. Pellaea falcata is cultivated as an ornamental plant for gardens. When grown indoors, it prefers ample water, and tolerates very bright light, though it cannot tolerate full sun.
