About Pelecyphora chihuahuensis subsp. chihuahuensis
Pelecyphora chihuahuensis subsp. chihuahuensis most often grows as a single individual, but sometimes produces multiple shoots, and it has tuberous roots. Its shoots range from cylindrical to spherical in shape, growing up to 20 centimeters tall and 6 to 7 centimeters in diameter. The short warts on the shoots have furrows along their upper surface. This subspecies has 5 to 10 central spines that are 1.5 to 10 millimeters long with darker tips, along with approximately 20 to 32 white radial spines that measure 4 to 8 millimeters long. Its flowers are light pink to faintly purple, 1.5 to 2 centimeters long, and can reach up to 2 centimeters in diameter. The elongated fruits are green or reddish, growing up to 10 millimeters long and 7 millimeters in diameter. Pelecyphora chihuahuensis subsp. chihuahuensis is native to the Mexican states of Chihuahua and Durango.
