The brown-winged kingfisher, with the scientific name Pelargopsis amauroptera, is a bird species that belongs to the subfamily Halcyoninae. This species lives along the north and eastern coasts of the Bay of Bengal, and can be found in Bangladesh, India, Malaysia, Myanmar, and Thailand. In India, most reports of the brown-winged kingfisher come from the Sundarbans region, though there are also records of the species further south near Chilka. The natural habitat of this bird is subtropical or tropical mangrove forests.
