About Pedum spondyloideum (Gmelin, 1791)

Scientific name: Pedum spondyloideum (Gmelin, 1791)

The two shell valves of Pedum spondyloideum are fan-shaped and asymmetrical. The right valve is wider, larger, inflected, and smoother than the left valve, and it has a deep byssal notch. The left valve is flattened, and bears radial lines and spines. The scallop’s visible anatomy includes its mantle folds and tentacles. Two distinct types of tentacles have been observed: one that is entirely white, and another that has brown stripes. Like other scallops, Pedum spondyloideum has eyes.
