About Pectiantia pentandra (Hook.) Rydb.
Pectiantia pentandra (Hook.) Rydb. is a rhizomatous perennial herb that reaches 50 to 60 centimetres (20 to 24 inches) in height. Its leaves, which bear oval blades several centimetres wide with edges divided into toothed lobes, grow mostly around the base of the stem. An erect inflorescence holds several flowers, sometimes as many as 25, usually arranged along one side of the stem. The distinctive flowers are saucer-shaped, with five green petals that are divided into narrow, whisker-like lobes. This species is native to a large portion of western North America, ranging from Alaska to California to Colorado. It grows in moist, shady habitats including meadows, woods, and mountain forests. In the Sierra Nevada, it grows at elevations between 5,000 and 8,300 feet (1,500 and 2,500 metres), and can be found on stream banks and in wet meadows.
