About Patella pellucida Linnaeus, 1758

Patella pellucida Linnaeus, 1758 is a species of limpet. When fully grown, its shell reaches a maximum length of 15 mm. The species can be easily identified by its translucent amber shell, which has bright blue spots arranged in lines across the upper surface. This limpet is distributed along the eastern Atlantic coasts, ranging from Iceland and Norway in the north to Portugal in the south. It is not found in the Baltic Sea, East Denmark, Belgium, or the Netherlands. The blue-rayed limpet primarily lives on Laminaria (kelp) in areas with strong water flow, but it can also be found growing on Fucus serratus on the lower shore. It inhabits areas down to approximately 30 meters depth.
