Patella caerulea Linnaeus, 1758 has a shell that ranges in size from 20 mm to 72 mm. The shell is thin, depressed, and spreading, and is usually more or less distinctly shaped with 6 or 7 angles. Its riblets are rather fine and notably unequal. This species is distributed in the Mediterranean Sea, and in the Atlantic Ocean off the Canary Islands, Madeira, and the Azores.
