About Passer rufocinctus Fischer & Reichenow, 1884

The Kenya sparrow, with the scientific name Passer rufocinctus Fischer & Reichenow, 1884, is also commonly called the Kenya rufous sparrow. This species of sparrow occurs in Kenya and Tanzania, where it typically inhabits dry wooded savannah and agricultural areas. Following the 1993 work of Dowsett and Forbes-Watson, some taxonomic authorities have grouped the great sparrow (P. motitensis), Kenya sparrow, and Socotra sparrow (P. insularis) into a single species under the name P. motitensis. Some authorities also further group Shelley's sparrow and the Kordofan sparrow with the Kenya sparrow, or group all three of these species together with the great sparrow.
