The parrot-billed sparrow has the scientific name Passer gongonensis (Oustalet, 1890). This bird lives in the arid lowlands of eastern Africa. Measuring 18 centimetres (7.1 in) long and weighing 42 grams (1.5 oz), it is the largest species among all sparrows in the family Passeridae. It is often classified as a subspecies of the grey-headed sparrow.
