About Parus spilonotus Bonaparte, 1850

The yellow-cheeked tit, scientifically named Machlolophus spilonotus, is a bird species that belongs to the family Paridae. Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical moist lowland forest, and subtropical or tropical moist montane forest. This species occurs in Bangladesh, Bhutan, China, Hong Kong, India, Laos, Myanmar, Nepal, Thailand, and Vietnam. The yellow-cheeked tit was previously classified as one of the many species in the genus Parus. It was moved to the genus Machlolophus after a 2013 molecular phylogenetic analysis showed that members of this new genus formed a distinct clade.
