About Parus cinerascens Vieillot, 1818

The ashy tit, scientifically known as Melaniparus cinerascens, is a bird species belonging to the family Paridae. It occurs naturally in Angola, Botswana, Namibia, South Africa, and Zimbabwe. Its native habitats are subtropical or tropical dry forests and dry savanna. This species was originally classified under the genus Parus, listed as Parus cinerascens Vieillot, 1818. It was later moved to the genus Melaniparus after a 2013 molecular phylogenetic analysis found that the species grouped into this new genus formed a distinct clade.
