About Parmelia omphalodes (L.) Ach.

Parmelia omphalodes (L.) Ach. is a species of foliose lichen belonging to the family Parmeliaceae. It was among the several dozen lichen species first formally described in 1753 by Carl Linnaeus. In 1803, Swedish lichenologist Erik Acharius reclassified the species, transferring it to the genus Parmelia. This lichen has a wide distribution, with confirmed recorded occurrences in Asia, Africa, Europe, North America, and South America. Parmelia discordans and Parmelia pinnatifida are species that are morphologically similar to Parmelia omphalodes, but are genetically distinct from it.
