About Parma microlepis Günther, 1862

This species, commonly called the white-ear, grows to approximately 20 centimeters. White-ears change color as they grow, but always retain a distinct white marking on their 'ear'. Young juvenile white-ears have bright coloration; as the fish matures, these colors fade, and adults develop yellowish-brown to grey or black coloration. The white-ear is endemic to Australia, where it can be found from northern New South Wales to northern Tasmania. Parma microlepis is a benthic species that inhabits coastal reefs, and is commonly found on reefs at depths between 1 and 55 meters.
