About Parhelophilus laetus (Loew, 1863)
Parhelophilus laetus, first described by Loew in 1863, is commonly called the Common Bog Fly. It is a common species of syrphid fly that has been observed across northern North America. Syrphid flies, also called hoverflies, are able to stay nearly motionless while in flight. Adult P. laetus are also known as flower flies, because they are frequently found on flowers, where they collect energy-providing nectar and protein-rich pollen for food. The larvae of this species have not been identified or described.
