About Parhelophilus integer (Loew, 1863)

Parhelophilus integer, commonly called the shiny bog fly, is a rare species of syrphid fly that has been observed in the Eastern United States. Like other hoverflies, members of this species can remain nearly motionless while in flight. Adult hoverflies are also known as flower flies, because they are commonly found on flowers, from which they get energy-giving nectar and protein-rich pollen. Larvae of the genus Parhelophilus, which this species belongs to, are the long-tailed "rat-tailed" type.
