About Parhelophilus flavifacies (Bigot, 1884)

Parhelophilus flavifacies, commonly called the Black-legged Bog Fly, is a rare species of syrphid fly that has been observed in Eastern United States and Canada. Members of this fly group, also known as hoverflies, are able to stay nearly motionless while in flight. Adult hoverflies are often called flower flies because they are commonly found on flowers, where they collect energy-giving nectar and protein-rich pollen. The larvae of this species are the long-tailed "rat-tailed" type.
