Parequula melbournensis is a fish similar to Gerres subfasciatus, distinguishable by its long-based anal fin and non-anteriorly elevated dorsal fin.
This species has the scientific name Parequula melbournensis (Castelnau, 1872). P. melbournensis is similar in appearance to Gerres subfasciatus. It can be distinguished from G. subfasciatus by two key features: its anal fin has a long base, and its dorsal fin is not elevated on the anterior side.
