Parechinus angulosus (Leske, 1778) has a round test that reaches a maximum diameter of 60 mm. Its body is covered in a dense layer of short, sharp spines, which never grow longer than 20% of the test's diameter. The test is most commonly green, while the spines are typically purple, though both the test and spines may also appear green, red, or off-white. This species is distributed from Lüderitz to Durban, and can be found from the intertidal zone down to approximately 100 meters depth.
