About Paraxerus palliatus (Peters, 1852)
The red bush squirrel, also called the red-bellied coast squirrel, has the scientific name Paraxerus palliatus (Peters, 1852). It is a rodent species belonging to the squirrel family Sciuridae. This species lives in bush and forest habitats along the eastern seaboard of Africa. It is closely related to Paraxerus lucifer, Paraxerus vexillarius, and Paraxerus (palliatus) vincenti. It is native to seven African countries: Somalia, Kenya, Tanzania, Malawi, Mozambique, Zimbabwe, and South Africa. Its natural habitats include subtropical or tropical dry forest, subtropical or tropical moist lowland forest, and subtropical or tropical dry shrubland.
