About Paratachardina pseudolobata Kondo & Gullan, 2007

Paratachardina pseudolobata, commonly called the lobate lac scale, is a polyphagous, pestiferous lac scale insect. It causes damage to trees and woody shrubs in Cuba, Florida, the Bahamas, and Christmas Island, which is an Australian territory. This species was mistakenly identified as Paratachardina lobata (Chamberlin), a species native to India and Sri Lanka, until 2007, when it was recognized and named as a separate distinct species using specimen material collected from Florida. Its native geographic distribution is still unknown. The species was described using all female life stages: adult, second-instar nymph, and first-instar nymph. This description came as part of a revision of the genus Paratachardina, where all of the genus' already known species were also redescribed.
