About Parastichtis suspecta Hübner, 1809

This species has a wingspan of 29–34 mm. Adult moths are variable, with multiple forms that range from plain to more heavily variegated. The forewings are pale luteous grey, sometimes with a strong red-brown, rufous, or brownish tinge; the lines and shading are only slightly darker than the base color. The median shade is distinct, and the upper stigmata are large with a clear whitish outline. The submarginal line is pale and waved, with the terminal area beyond this line being darker. The hindwings are dull grey. Very palest specimens of this form with almost no markings are named ab. pallida Tutt, while grey specimens with no rufous or luteous tinge at all are named grisea Tutt. The type form, suspecta Hbn, is more mottled with darker brownish red shades. In nigrescens Tutt, these dark shades are intensified, and the entire moth becomes blackish red brown. Bright red specimens with clear lines and markings are named rufa Tutt, while red brown forms mixed with purplish grey and having paler stigmata are named variegata.
