About Parasesarma pictum (De Haan, 1835)
This species, Parasesarma pictum, shares the square carapace characteristic of other sesarmid crabs. Its chelae (claws) are covered in scaly tubercles that wear down as the crab ages, alongside some short setae, or hairs. The inner surface of the claw is smooth, but the movable claw segment has multiple ridges and fine granules. These ridges and granules are smaller in females and juvenile crabs than they are in fully grown adult males. The merus, the upper portion of this crab’s walking legs, is broader relative to the lower segments of the limb.
