About Parascorpis typus Bleeker, 1875
Parascorpis typus, commonly known as the jutjaw, is a centrarchiform fish species, and it is the only known member of both its genus and family. This species is native to the Indian Ocean coast of Africa, and it occurs along the coasts of Mozambique and South Africa. It lives at depths between 20 metres (66 ft) and 200 metres (656 ft). Individuals of this species can reach a maximum total length of 60 centimetres (24 in). Parascorpis typus is considered a good foodfish, but it is not currently targeted by commercial fisheries, and it is only rarely caught by anglers.
