Parapriacanthus is a genus of sweepers that is native to the Indian Ocean and the western Pacific Ocean. Members of this genus are bioluminescent, and have ventral light organs that they use for counter-illumination. The luciferase found in Parapriacanthus is a kleptoprotein, which the fish obtain by eating bioluminescent ostracods.
