About Parapercis cylindrica (Bloch, 1792)

Parapercis cylindrica can reach a maximum total length of 23 cm (9.1 in). This species has a series of dark brown quadrangular blotches running along its body, with the largest blotches connected by dark brown stripes. There is a narrow dark brown bar positioned below the middle of the eye, and the caudal fin is most often yellowish.

This species occurs in the Western Pacific Ocean, ranging from Australia to Fiji, and also found in southern Japan, northern Sulawesi, and the Marshall Islands. It is a shallow reef-associated species that typically inhabits lagoon and seaward reefs, found in areas with sand and seagrass, at depths from 1 to 20 metres (0 to 70 feet).
