About Paralethe dendrophilus (Trimen, 1862)

Paralethe is a monotypic butterfly genus that belongs to the Nymphalidae family. This genus contains only one species, Paralethe dendrophilus, which is commonly known as the "bush beauty" or "forest pride". This butterfly species is found in South Africa. Males of this species have a wingspan ranging from 45 to 60 mm, while females have a wingspan ranging from 48 to 70 mm. Adult Paralethe dendrophilus are active from late December to May each year. There is one new generation of this species per year. The larvae of Paralethe dendrophilus feed on a variety of species in the Poaceae family, specifically including Ehrharta erecta and Panicum deustrum.
