Paraleptuca crassipes (White, 1847) typically has a crimson red carapace, though some individuals may have black margins or black patches on the carapace. The large cheliped of male individuals of this species is reddish pink. Its walking legs can be either crimson red or black. Bright sky blue patches may be present on its face and around the bases of its walking legs. The natural distribution of Paraleptuca crassipes ranges from New Caledonia to eastern Australian shores, the island of New Guinea, the Philippines, China, and the southernmost islands of Japan. This species prefers to live in mangrove habitats.
