About Paraflabellina ischitana (Hirano & T.E.Thompson, 1990)
This species of aeolid nudibranch can grow up to approximately 4 cm in length, and its body is mostly purple-violet. Its cerata, rhinophores, and oral tentacles all have opaque white tips, and the rhinophores themselves are annulate. Because the skin covering the cerata is somewhat transparent, the branching digestive gland inside the cerata is visible through it, and shows a red-orange colour. This species occurs in Mediterranean waters, where it has been recorded around Spain, including at locations on the Costa Brava, as well as in the Tyrrhenian Sea, particularly around the island of Ischia – the locality that gives this species its specific Latin epithet. It typically inhabits shallow water environments, but can also be found at depths as great as 35 m.
