About Parablennius incognitus (Bath, 1968)

The mystery blenny, scientifically known as Parablennius incognitus, is a species of combtooth blenny. This species is found in the eastern Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea. It is widespread across Madeira, the Canary Islands, Limbe (Cameroon), and areas off the Iberian Peninsula, and also occurs throughout the entire Mediterranean, including locations such as Morocco, the Sea of Marmara, and the Black Sea. The mystery blenny was first discovered in the Black Sea in 2002 near the southern coast of Crimea, Ukraine, and it quickly became abundant in coastal waters ranging from Sevastopol to Cape Fiolent. This species can grow to a maximum length of 5.8 centimetres (2.3 inches) standard length.
