About Parablechnum montanum (T.C.Chambers & P.A.Farrant) Gasper & Salino
Parablechnum montanum (formerly referred to as Blechnum montanum, abbreviated here as B. montanum) is a large fern species. It has scaly rhizomes that can reach up to 20 centimeters in length, and produces strongly dimorphic fronds. This species is native to New Zealand, occurring on the North Island, the South Island, the Chatham Islands, and the outlying New Zealand subantarctic islands of Auckland, Campbell, and Antipodes. North of Auckland, only hybrids between this species and Parablechnum novae-zelandiae may be present. On the North Island, Parablechnum montanum grows in alpine and subalpine habitats. In the South Island and on all of New Zealand's outlying islands it occupies, this species can be found in a wider variety of habitats.
