About Papilio ophidicephalus Oberthür, 1878
Papilio ophidicephalus, commonly known as the emperor swallowtail, is a species of butterfly belonging to the family Papilionidae. This butterfly is native to Sub-Saharan Africa. Males of the species have a wingspan ranging from 90 to 110 mm, while females have a larger wingspan of 100 to 120 mm. Emperor swallowtails produce two generations of offspring per year; the first brood emerges between August and December, and the second brood emerges between January and April. The larvae of this butterfly feed on a variety of plant species, including Clausena inqequalis, Clausena anisata, Calodendrum capense, Zanthoxylum capense, other Zanthoxylum species, and species within the Citrus genus.
