About Papilio dardanus Brown, 1776

Papilio dardanus, commonly called the Saharan swallowtail, African swallowtail, mocker swallowtail, or flying handkerchief, is a butterfly species belonging to the swallowtail family Papilionidae. This species has a wide distribution across Sub-Saharan Africa. British entomologist E. B. Poulton described this butterfly as "the most interesting butterfly in the world". This species was formally named Papilio dardanus by Brown in 1776.
