About Pandercetes gracilis L.Koch, 1875

Pandercetes gracilis, commonly known as the lichen huntsman spider and the lichen spider, is a species of huntsman spider. Its distribution covers New Guinea, the Maluku Islands, Sulawesi, and Queensland, Australia. Individual spiders of this species display a wide range of color variation, with multiple distinct color forms existing. Unlike the color-changing ability of squids and some reptiles, the color of Pandercetes gracilis does not change after the spider completes a molt. This spider hunts by hiding within moss and lichen, then ambushing approaching prey by pouncing once it enters striking range.
