About Pandalus platyceros Brandt, 1851

Spot prawns (Pandalus platyceros Brandt, 1851) can reach a maximum length of 27 centimeters, and females are typically longer than males. This species has a translucent reddish carapace marked with white stripes. Its pereopods and antennae have alternating dark and light red bands. White spots are present on the first and fifth abdominal segments of spot prawns. Spot prawns are protandric hermaphrodites: they mature first as males, during which their appendix masculina lengthens. As they develop into females, this structure gradually shortens.
