About Palpares libelluloides (Linnaeus, 1764)

Palpares libelluloides (Linnaeus, 1764) has a relatively large wingspan of over 10 centimetres (3.9 in). Its very broad wings are mottled dark brown. Males can be identified by their long, delicate genital appendages. Adult imagos are active both day and night, and can be seen from May to September. Their flight is typically short and stays close to the ground. The specific epithet libelluloides means "dragonfly-like", a reference to the dragonfly genus Libellula. This species is widespread across Mediterranean regions, and is mainly found in Albania, Bulgaria, France, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Romania, Spain and Turkey. It occurs in thickets and on rocky slopes up to approximately 1000 meters above sea level.
