About Palafoxia feayi A.Gray

Palafoxia feayi A.Gray grows to between 3 and 15 decimeters tall, which is approximately 12 to 59 inches. Its leaves are arranged oppositely along stems, with a shape ranging from elliptic to ovate, and have entire margins. The inflorescence heads of this species can hold 10 to 30 florets each. It grows in non-coastal sandy, fire-dependent habitats across Florida, including scrub, sandhill, and scrubby flatwoods. In its natural habitat, fire typically kills all above-ground parts of individual Palafoxia feayi plants. However, the species can quickly resprout from its existing root system after a fire passes. It is also adapted to establish new seedlings during the intervals between fire events.
