Pakau pennigera is commonly known by multiple common names: lime fern, gully fern, feather fern, and piupiu. It is a small fern species native to southeastern Australia and New Zealand. It typically grows along streams and also occurs in open forest areas. Confirmed known locations for this species include Tasmania and Victoria in Australia, as well as all of New Zealand. There is a single recorded occurrence of the species in Queensland, the northern Australian state. There are no reliable records confirming the species grows in New South Wales, which lies south of Queensland and north of the other confirmed locations where Pakau pennigera is known to exist.
