About Pagurus traversi (Filhol, 1885)

Pagurus traversi is a small hermit crab native to New Zealand. This species reaches a maximum carapace length of 8.1 mm, and has a reddish-brown overall coloration, with tuberculate chelipeds. Like most hermit crabs, it typically lives inside empty gastropod shells. It is most commonly found along New Zealand's southeastern coastlines, including the Otago and Kaikoura regions. It occupies intertidal zones and shallow marine waters, with habitats including shallow rocky or sandy areas, tide pools, the inner continental shelf, and areas among bryozoan tubes and polychaete shells.
