About Paeonia L.

This species of Paeonia L. grows 50โ€“70 cm (20โ€“28 in) tall and wide. It produces 9-lobed leaves that are 20โ€“40 cm (8โ€“16 in) long. Flower buds emerge in late spring, which falls in May for the Northern Hemisphere. The buds are large and round; when open, they become fragrant cup- or bowl-shaped flowers 8โ€“16 cm (3โ€“6 in) in diameter. Flowers have 5โ€“10 petals in white, pink, or crimson, and yellow stamens. This plant attracts butterflies. It grows naturally in dry open stony slopes, riverbanks, and sparse woodland edges.
