About Paeonia L.
This species of Paeonia L. grows 50โ70 cm (20โ28 in) tall and wide. It produces 9-lobed leaves that are 20โ40 cm (8โ16 in) long. Flower buds emerge in late spring, which falls in May for the Northern Hemisphere. The buds are large and round; when open, they become fragrant cup- or bowl-shaped flowers 8โ16 cm (3โ6 in) in diameter. Flowers have 5โ10 petals in white, pink, or crimson, and yellow stamens. This plant attracts butterflies. It grows naturally in dry open stony slopes, riverbanks, and sparse woodland edges.
