About Packera subnuda (DC.) Trock & T.M.Barkley
Packera subnuda (DC.) Trock & T.M.Barkley is a species of flowering plant in the aster family, with the common names Buek's groundsel and cleftleaf groundsel. It is native to western North America, ranging from the Northwest Territories to northern California to Wyoming. In this region, it grows in high mountain meadows found in subalpine and alpine climates. This plant is a perennial herb that grows one upright stem, or a small cluster of two to three stems, from a rhizome, a fibrous root system, or both. Its stems reach approximately 5 to 30 centimeters (2.0 to 11.8 inches) tall. The plant's basal leaves have fleshy oval blades up to 3 or 4 centimeters (1.2 or 1.6 inches) long that grow on petioles. Leaves located higher up the stem are smaller and simpler in structure. The inflorescence is most often a single flower head, and occasionally holds two to five flower heads. Each flower head is lined with reddish or green phyllaries that have green or bluish tips. The head holds many golden yellow disc florets, and usually 13 yellow ray florets; each ray floret is roughly 1 centimeter (0.39 inches) long.
