About Packera indecora (Greenm.) Á.Löve & D.Löve
Packera indecora (Greenm.) Á.Löve & D.Löve is a species of flowering plant in the aster family. It has two common names: elegant groundsel and rayless mountain ragwort. This species is native to northern North America, where it occurs across most of Canada and parts of the northernmost United States. It grows in moist mountain habitats, including streamsides and meadows. It is a perennial herb that grows one stem, or a cluster of 2 to 3 stems, from a branching caudex and taproot. Plants reach heights between 10 centimeters and 1 meter. Lower leaves have thin, oblong or oval blades a few centimeters long, attached to long petioles. Smaller, more intricately divided leaves are often found higher up on the stem. Its inflorescence is an umbel-shaped cluster holding up to 20 or more flower heads. Each flower head is lined with phyllaries that have green or red tips. The head holds many disc florets. It occasionally produces a tiny yellow ray floret, though ray florets are usually absent.
