About Pachypasa otus (Drury, 1770)

Pachypasa otus is a moth belonging to the family Lasiocampidae. It was first described by Dru Drury, and its accepted binomial authority publication year is 1770. This species can be found in southern Europe, including Italy, the Balkans, and Greece, as well as in Asia Minor, Armenia, Iraq, Iran, and Israel. The wingspan of adult Pachypasa otus ranges from 36 to 45 mm. Adults are active on the wing from June to September. Plant species recorded as food sources for this moth include Cupressus, Juniperus, Thuja occidentalis, and Quercus pubescens. Pachypasa otus is the probable source of the wild silk textile known as Roman coa vestis produced on the island of Kos.
