Pachygaster leachii Curtis, 1824 is a very small fly. It is a brilliant black color with a round abdomen, and has a total body length of approximately 2.5 to 3.5 mm. Males of this species have brown-red eyes, while females have obscure green eyes. Both males and females have yellow antennae. The legs are pale yellow, with a blackish ring at the tip of the third pair of femora; this ring is sometimes quite wide. This fly has yellowish wings with pale veins, and its halteres are yellowish-brown at the base. This species has been recorded in Andorra, Austria, Azerbaijan, Belgium, Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, England, France, Georgia, Germany, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Russia, Slovakia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Wales, and Yugoslavia.
