About Pachliopta polydorus (Linnaeus, 1763)
Pachliopta polydorus (Linnaeus, 1763) has black forewings with white shading between the veins. Its hindwings are black, have scalloped edges, and lack tails. The hindwing features a row of dark-red postdiscal spots, and a large white discal patch in the center of the wing. The underside of both wings matches the color and pattern of the upper side, except the underside has brighter red spots. The body is black, with a red abdomen. Males and females of this species look identical. The average wingspan is 72 mm for males and 76 mm for females. This species is distributed across Indonesia (including the Moluccas, excluding Morotai but including Seram and Ambon, as well as Tanimbar, Irian Jaya, Kai, Aru, Waigeu and Skouten Islands), Papua New Guinea, the Bismarck Archipelago (including New Britain), Bougainville, the Solomons (including San Cristobal and Ulawa Island), the Trobriand Islands, D'Entrecasteaux Islands, the Louisiade Archipelago, and Australia (northern Queensland).
