About Oxystele tigrina (Dillwyn, 1817)
The adult shell of Oxystele tigrina ranges in size from 25 mm to 43 mm. The shell is more or less elevated, imperforate, and shaped like a low rounded cone. It is lusterless, with a color ranging from blackish to purplish; individuals may be solid-colored, marked with a few scattered white dots, or patterned with yellowish flexuous lines. The yellow or whitish apical whorls are eroded. There are approximately 6 whorls, marked with coarse, indistinct spiral lirae. The large aperture is oblique, with a black border and a silvery interior. The simple columella is white or yellowish, edged with a dull purplish streak. The parietal wall is usually covered by a thin silvery callus. This marine species is found along the coast of Namibia and on the south coast of South Africa.
