About Oxyopes macilentus L.Koch, 1878
Oxyopes macilentus, sometimes called the lean lynx spider, is a species of lynx spider found across East Asia, South Asia, Southeast Asia, and northern Australia. These spiders are active predators that hunt invertebrates, including other spiders, among vegetation. They are particularly common in grassy areas and rice fields. Their bodies are characteristically long and thin, with a body length roughly four times its width. Body color ranges from pale white to yellow, orange, or green, and is marked with a pattern of longitudinal black, orange, and white lines. Females reach a maximum body length of 10 mm (0.39 in), while males reach a maximum body length of 9 mm (0.35 in). The species was first formally described in 1878 by German arachnologist Ludwig Carl Christian Koch. Its specific epithet macilentus comes from the Latin word for "lean" or "thin", and refers to the spider's distinctively shaped body. It is classified within the genus Oxyopes.
